| On Thursday, August 5th, 2010 the Washington Hose Company Ambulance was dispatched at 1349 to reports of an auto accident on West Lincoln Highway West of Mount Pleasant Street.
Washies EMS was covering for Westwood EMS who was handling another medical call at the time in West Fallowfield Township.
Tac 44 responded to assist at 1351. Just as Tac 44 was leaving the station, additional calls to 911 indicated that the operator of the vehicle was trapped inside. Rescue 44 and Medic 93 were dispatched to the scene. Due to this, Tac 44's crew switched over to Rescue 44 and responded at 1353.
Washies Ambulance 41-1 arrived on scene at 1353 and confirmed that the occupant was indeed trapped inside.
Due to limited manpower availability, Rescue 44 requested assistance from the Sadsburyville Fire Company to the scene.
The crew from Rescue 44 arrived on scene and began to set up for extrication. Past Chief Sly and Past Chief Criswell began to deploy hydraulic rescue tools, sawzalls, and additional hand tools, while Firefighter Celii and Gorba stabilized the vehicle. Firefighter/EMT Kubala deployed pneumatic rescue tools off of Rescue 44.
Past Chief Criswell began to cut the skin of the vehicle's roof utilizing a sawzall while Past Chief Sly operated the air tools to cut the remainder of the roof.
Sadsburyville firefighters arrived on the scene and deployed a hose line as crews assisted with the extrication process.
The patient was successfully extricated from the vehicle at 1416, less than 20 minutes from the arrival of Rescue 44.
Washies EMS and Medic 93 personnel assumed care of the patient who was then transported to Brandywine Hospital.
All units cleared the scene at 1531.
This was the third fire call of the day for our firefighters; previous responses were made to a reported house fire in Valley Township and a Helicopter Standby in Parkesburg Borough.
