By Sadsburyville Fire Company No. 1
July 29, 2014

On Tuesday, July 29th, 2014 the Fire Company was dispatched at 1230 to assist the Westwood Fire Company for a response to the Chester County Airport for an aircraft in distress.

Westwood Battalion Chief Sly and Ambulance 44-1 both responded within one minute of dispatch at 1231. Ambulance 44-1 was in the area at the time of dispatch and arrived on the scene just one minute later followed by Battalion 44 at 1233.

Crews arrived to meet the Airport Manager who was in contact with a small aircraft preparing to arrive with a possible landing gear malfunction.

Due to the on board fuel capacity and the chance for a failed landing, the apparatus was dispatched to standby on the runway.

Engine 31-1 responded at 1235 followed by Engine 31-2 at 1238. Battalion Chief Sly established "Airport Command" and advised the incoming EMS units to stage at the airport terminal.

Once the apparatus was in place, the plane came in for the approach and fortunately landed without incident.

The Incident Commander released the Sadsburyville units from the scene once the successful landing took place at 1244.

Units: Engine 31-1 and Engine 31-2
