By Fire Chief Adam Grossman
November 9, 2014

On November 9th, 2014 members of the Sadsburyville Fire Company gathered to celebrate years of hard work, dedication and pride to our company and our community. The day included a housing and dedication of Engine 31-1 at the Sadsburyville Fire Company followed by a Banquet at the Wagontown Fire Company Volunteer's Hall.

Chief Grossman began the day's ceremony leading everyone in the pledge of allegiance and a moment of silenced, followed by a speech of where the fire company was and where it's going along with its achievements along the way. These achievements included building renovations over the past 5 years and the purchase and in-service of Engine 31-1. At this time Mick Arnold was also recognized for his assistance in securing Engine 31-1 for our company.

During this time it was noted that the fire hall was dedicated to Fred Wolfe, a longtime member of the company that spent countless hours raising funds most notably during our weekly bingo game. Unfortunately Fred was unable to attend the event but a round of applause was given for all he has done.

Following open remarks, Captain Erik Brecht gave the history of housing a fire engine. Followed by this it was announced that the Engine was dedicated to Claude "Buzz" Reynolds for his decades of service to our company and community. A plaque was mounted on the side of Engine 31-1 showing this unit being dedicated to him.

Next Engine 31-1 was officially housed with the assistance of the Keystone Valley Fire Department, Modena, Westwood and Wagontown Fire Companies, our mutual aid fire companies. Traditionally the Engine was pushed in 3 times, once for community, once for our company and once for god and our country.

Concluding the housing and dedication ceremony, Dave Reynolds presented to Claude "Buzz" Reynolds, his father, numerous citations from local government officials and a plaque of recognition from the Sadsburyville Fire Company.

The night continued on to the Wagontown Fire Company Volunteer's Hall for our banquet. The night began with a wonderful dinner prepared by traditions catering and music by Earl Taylor.

In addition, awards were given out to members for their dedication and commitment to our company throughout the past couple of years, noting that we have not had a banquet in 5 years. James Supplee was presented the Driver of the Year Award, John Sly was awarded 3rd place Firefighter of the Year Award, Dexter Pascoe awarded 2nd place Firefighter of the Year Award and Eric Messner awarded 1st place Firefighter of the Year Award.

Additionally Chief Grossman presented the Fire Chief's Award to Chris McCarthy and Chris Loesch. Both of these individuals have been very influential to the day to day operations of the company and have started many events such as chicken barbecues, fire and wine festival and our fire prevention open house. It was also noted that Chris Loesch began a fire prevention program at our local preschools in 2012 that has continued since then.

Concluding the Fire Chief's Awards, Kevin Supplee was recognized for serving our company for 21 years as Fire Chief from 1990-2010 and Dave Reynolds was recognized for serving our company for 21 years as Deputy Chief from 1990-2010.

President Dave Reynolds took the stand and presented the President's Award to Erik Brecht and recognized Debbie Supplee for her 30 years of service to the company.

Furthermore a slide show was played in recognition of James Supplee for his 60 years of service to our company. James has been a member since 1955 and has served very active ever since then. James served our company as Fire Chief from 1975-1989 and had many accomplishments during that era. In recent years James has been very influential in the renovations that have been taking place at our fire station in addition to being the top responder.

Chief Supplee was presented a plaque of appreciation from the Sadsburyville Fire Company, Sadsbury Township Board of Supervisors and EMB Specialty. Thank you to Chief Supplee for being a mentor to the members of our fire company and for your years of service to our company and our community.

The night concluded with Erik Brecht of EMB Specialty presenting the Core Excellence Award to a member of our fire company that demonstrated the traits of a great leader. This year's award was presented to Fire Chief Adam Grossman. Also recognition was given to John Lymberis of Harry's for their continued support to our fire company and in loving memory of his father Harry Lymberis who passed away recently and was a life member of the Sadsburyville Fire Company.
