By Fire Chief Adam Grossman
December 24, 2014

On December 24th, 2014 at 1141 hours the Sadsburyville, Westwood and Wagontown Fire Companies and the Keystone Valley Fire Department were dispatched to the 900 block of Old Wilmington Road in Sadsbury Township for a house reported on fire.

Assistant Chief Reynolds immediately marked up and was advised the police department was on scene with a working house fire. With this report Assistant Chief Reynolds requested a working fire dispatch. Upon arrival Assistant Chief Reynolds reported a house fully involved, assumed Old Wilmington Road Command and advised incoming units to go into a defensive suppression mode.

Engine 31-1 responded minutes after dispatch and proceeded to Old Wilmington Road and Lincoln Highway where they to laid a 5" supply line from the fire hydrant south down to the scene. Upon arrival firefighters went into service with a deck gun, portable deck gun and (2) 1-3/4" hose lines to attack the fire and protect the exposures. Engine 31-2 responded to the fire hydrant and secured a water supply to Engine 31-1 attacking the fire.

Minutes after arriving the structure began to collapse and a collapse zone was established for firefighter safety. Chief Grossman assumed the operations role, Westwood Assistant Chief Scott had Old Wilmington Road Command Post, Wagontown Assistant Chief Reber supervised the C/D sides of the structure and Keystone Deputy Chief Gathercole supervised the A/B sides. Together all companies worked together to quickly bring the fire under control.

The homeowner was home at the time of the fire and suffered burn injuries. Ambulance 08 and Medic 93 transported the subject to a local trauma center for care, no firefighter suffered injury while operating on the scene. Thank you to Harry's The Neighborhood Place for providing food to the scene.

Thank you to West Caln Township for providing a backhoe and large loader at the fire scene. Photos courtesy of Randy J. Scott.
