By Sadsburyville Fire Company No. 1
January 13, 2016

On Wednesday January 13th, 2016 at 0641 the Westwood, Sadsburyville, Wagontown and East Brandywine Fire Companies were dispatched for a house on fire in the 900 block of High Street in the Hayti section of Valley Township. Responding firefighters received reports that the house was filling with smoke from an unknown source.

Sadsburyville Chief Grossman and Westwood Chief McWilliams arrived on location at 0652 with no smoke or fire conditions on the outside of the structure. Engine 31-1 and Engine 44-5 arrived at 0654 and took position on the front side of the structure with Engine 31-1 preparing to pull a hose line and Engine 44-5 to supply water to the scene if needed.

After investigating the incident was determined to be a heater malfunction. The Valley Police department had already secured the power to the heater and firefighters used natural ventilation to remove a haze of smoke throughout the house that came from the heater vents. The incident was held to the Westwood and Sadsburyville Fire Companies and all units cleared the scene at 0702.

Units: Engine 31-1, Engine 31-2, Chief 31
