Gas Leak On Wick Drive

By Fire Chief Adam Grossman
April 12, 2016

Tuesday April 12th, 2016 at 1549 hours the Sadsburyville Fire Company and Westwood EMS were dispatched to the unit block of Wick Drive in the Octorara Glen Development for a gas leak. The homeowner arrived home and found a strong smell of gas that had been throughout their house, they evacuated and activated 911.

Battalion Chief Brecht and Engine 31-1 arrived on location at 1558 and investigated the situation. It was determined some how the gas stove in the kitchen was left on and filled the house with Natural Gas. Fortunately this situation was discovered before it got worse, if the gas in the house found an ignition source it could of caused an explosion.

Firefighters mitigated the situation by turning off the gas supply and naturally ventilated the structure. The situation was under control quickly and all units cleared at 1604.

Units: Engine 31-1, Battalion 31

Mutual Aid: Westwood EMS
