House Explosion and Collapse in Valley
By Battalion Chief Erik Brecht
July 15, 2016
Dispatched at 1156, crews from the Sadsburyville Fire Company assisted Westwood Fire, Station 44 on a reported house fire, turned explosion and collapse. Units arrived within 6 minutes of dispatch to the 1000 block of Valley Station Road to a 3-story home completely desimated with no visible smoke or fire.
Westwood Deputy Chief Randy Scott assumed Valley Station Command, while Westwood Battalion Chief John Sly assumed Operations. Firefighters immediately assessed hazards and began search and rescue operations.
Battalion Chief Sly minimized the number of firefighters operating on the pile due to safety measures. PECO responded due to downed power lines.
