Smoke in the Building in the Hillview Community
By Fire Chief Adam Grossman
November 10, 2016
Engine 31-1 was dispatched for the building response in the 100 block of Hulnick Road in Valley Township. Also responding assisting the Westwood Fire Company was the Wagontown Fire Company, Coatesville and Coatesville VA Fire Departments.
Initially at 2042 the Westwood Fire Company was dispatched for an automatic fire alarm at the Club House building. Upon investigating and talking with personnel on location there was smoke in the building from an unknown source. Westwood Chief McWilliams arrived at 2104, established the Hulnick Road Command and requested the upgrade with a ladder truck special call.
Firefighters went interior and forced entry into some areas where keys were not available for access. It was found that a belt had burnt in an air/heating unit on the third floor and had filled the building with smoke. After some time, this was found and the unit's power source was secured. Wagontown Engine 35 placed positive pressure fans in service. The balance of the units were returned and all units cleared the scene at 2135.
