Firefighters Conduct Fire Prevention Education at Local Preschool During Fire Prevention Week

October 5, 2026

On Monday, October 5, 2026, as part of National Fire Prevention Week, members of the Sadsburyville Fire Company were out in the community educating local youth about the importance of fire prevention and fire safety.
Firefighters visited the Upper Octorara Presbyterian Church (UOPC) Preschool and Care Center on Octorara Trail in Sadsbury Township, where children participated in an interactive fire safety program designed to teach life-saving lessons in a fun and engaging way.

During the visit, students learned important fire prevention and emergency safety practices, had the opportunity to see and try on firefighter protective equipment, and learned about the tools firefighters use to keep themselves and others safe. One of the highlights of the day was the arrival of not one, but two fire trucks. The children were excited to explore the apparatus, learn about the hoses, tools, and equipment carried on the trucks, and even climb inside the cab to experience what it is like to be a firefighter.

The preschool later shared its appreciation for the department's continued commitment to fire safety education, noting that the annual visit provides much more than an exciting day for the children. The program helps young children understand the importance of fire prevention, what to do in an emergency, and that firefighters are there to help and protect them. By making these lessons age-appropriate, memorable, and engaging, firefighters help build confidence and familiarity that can be crucial during an emergency.
The visit also included firefighter-themed goodie bags and hats for the children to take home, adding to an already memorable experience.

The Sadsburyville Fire Company would like to thank the staff and students of UOPC Preschool for their warm welcome and continued partnership. The department also recognizes Chief Chris McCarthy for coordinating the annual program and thanks Lieutenant Shane, Captain Brad, Firefighter Todd, and Firefighter Zach for taking time out of their day to educate and inspire the next generation.

Community outreach and public education remain a vital part of the Sadsburyville Fire Company's mission. Through programs like these, firefighters continue to strengthen relationships within the community while helping ensure children and families are better prepared to prevent fires and respond safely in an emergency.
